Since our inception we have been a company with a passion to pursue excellence and this was recognised through a steady stream of awards. As a team, we continue to design our toys in such ways that they do not offer only unlimited entertainment, but also provide educational opportunities for children.

Company Profile

We wish to introduce ourselves as a leading manufacturer and exporter of Hand Painted/ Silk Screened Wooden products, in the category of Educational/ Gift items, Toys, Home decorations, Children's furniture, Handicrafts, etc. In order to expand its client's base and increase its market share, the company is approaching new buyers worldwide.

Selective Designs (Pvt) Limited was incorporated in July 1995, for the manufacture and export of wooden handcrafted products, such as ornaments, decorative and educational items, toys, and a wide range of fabric products such as stuffed toys, soft ornaments, wall hangings and play houses.

Our products are manufactured according to International Safety Standards using treated rubber wood, MDF board, non-toxic paint, imported and local fabric, thereby making these products safe for all ages. All our products conform to EN71 and ASTM Standards.

We are registered with the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka and we are a member of the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) and Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Sri Lanka (FCCISL). Our bankers are Hongkong & Shanghai Bank and Seylan Bank Limited.

The Company manufactures and exports to two prestigious companies in the USA, namely Hallmark Cards Inc., and Pier 1 Kids/ Pier 1 Imports. In addition, our company also exports to the following countries: Sweden, UK, Australia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Italy, Dubai and Switzerland.

We are pleased to announce that one of our long standing customers, in Sweden has invested in the company and has assured us of consistent orders in the future.

The company has a work force of around 60 direct employees and has Executives and Supervisory Staff having over 15 years experience in the trade.

The Company has received the following awards:

• Sri Lankan Entrepreneur of the Year (Merit Awards) : 2000, 2001 and 2002
• National Chamber of Exporters : Bronze Award 2001
• National Chamber of Exporters :Gold Award 2002
• National Chamber of Exporters :Gold Award 2003 (Medium Category)

At the beginning of August 1999, the Company moved into its own premises which house the Office and Factory Complex, and are situated approximately 20 kilometers from Colombo.

Code of Conduct

At SELECTIVE DESIGNS, we are committed to:

Child labour We do not use child labour.

The term “child” refers to a person younger than 14 years.

We aim at not employing persons between 14 and 18 years. However, if such a situation occurs, we will comply with all the laws and regulations applicable to such persons.
Involuntary labour We do not use any forced or involuntary labour, whether prison, bonded, indentured or otherwise.
Coercion and Harassment We treat each employee with dignity and respect and will not use corporal punishment, threats of violence or other forms of physical, sexual, psychological or verbal harassment or abuse.
Non-discrimination We do not discriminate in hiring and employment practices, including salary, benefits, advancement, discipline, termination or retirement, on the basis of race, religion, age, nationality, social or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender, political opinion or disability.
Freedom of association    and collective bargaining The Company will respect the rights of employees to associate, organize and bargain collectively in a lawful and peaceful manner, without penalty and interference.
Health and safety Health and safety standards are maintained as per the Factory Ordinance of the statutory requirements of Sri Lanka.

The Company will provide employees with a safe and healthy work place, bearing in mind the prevailing knowledge of the industry and of any specific hazards. Adequate steps shall be taken to prevent accidents and injury to health arising out of, associated with, or occurring in the course of work, by minimizing, so far as is reasonably practical, the causes of hazards inherent in the working environment, ensuring reasonable access to water and sanitary facilities, fire safety and adequate lighting and ventilation.

Employees who work in sanding and spray painting are provided with face masks.

Compressors are annually tested by an approved professionally qualified engineer.

Fire safe grads
The Company have the required number of fire extinguishers on the premises. Fire drills and evacuation drills are done and selected employees had been trained to handle minor fires, etc.
Compensation The company will, at a minimum, comply with all applicable wages and working hours regulations, including those relating to minimum wages, overtime, piece rates, and other elements of compensation and also provide legally mandated benefits.

The Company will not require employees to work more than the legal hours of work and overtime.

The Company will compensate employees for overtime work at the rate legally prescribed.

Other benefits
Employees falling sick are sent on the company’ expense to the nearest hospital and cost of medicine is borne by the Company.

Maternity leave
Female employees are granted maternity leave with full pay as per the Maternity Benefits Ordinance and Shop and Office Act maternity benefits.


Environmental awareness The Company is duly committed at all times to protect the environment and shall comply with the standards and requirements of the applicable local and international Laws and Regulations.
Transparency The Company shall carry out their activities in an honest, upright and transparent way, keeping for these purposes an appropriate accounting records system that facilitates the traceability of their decisions, as a preventive measure versus any type of corruption, bride and extortion that might arise.

The Company shall not offer, grant, request or accept any gifts or donations. The Company shall not manipulate or influence their works, nor shall they forge any files or records in order to alter the verification process regarding compliance with this Code.

The Company shall neither offer nor accept remuneration of any kind which seeks, or may be perceived to seek, to affect the impartial judgment or the objectivity of such parties appointed by any customer to carry out inspections and compliance audits.


Confidentiality The Company is committed to maintaining the highest degree of integrity in all its dealings with potential, current and past clients, both in terms of normal commercial confidentially, and the protection of all personal information received in the course of providing the business services concerned. We extend the same standards to all our customers, suppliers and associates.
